The Brown Family
We are North Americans; more specifically, although neither of our parents are originally from the Cornhusker State, as a family we call Nebraska home. Our kids, Daniel and Alyssa, were born in Lincoln, where we lived until Daniel was six and Alyssa four. We spend our stateside assignments, after every three or four years overseas, in Lincoln as well, where all four of us still have close friendships. Our church in the states is New Covenant Community Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. This photo is of Alyssa, experiencing winter for a change, during the 2002-2003 school year we spent in Nebraska.

In June 1996, God strongly impressed upon me that He wanted us to pursue fulltime overseas work. My only overseas experience at that time had been five weeks in France in 1978 with my high school French class. God “tapped” me, and said Go.

Since childhood I have always been interested in other countries and cultures. But after becoming a Christian as an adult, I didn’t want my personal interest to be what drove me into overseas work – I wanted it to be God. In June 1996, God strongly impressed upon Diane that He wanted us to pursue full-time overseas work. I had never been overseas, but when Diane told me what she was thinking, I immediately knew it was God.
